What is Dwarf Fortress?

What is a succession game?
A multiplayer game of Dwarf Fortress, in which each player takes control of the fortress for one game year and then passes the save file to the next player, "in succession". Each player may run the fortress as they see fit, making whatever changes they deem necessary for the good of all dwarfkind. If shit gets fucked up, we simply revert to the old save file. Do I need to know how to dorf successfully?
Yes and no. You are not required to be King of the Fucking Dwarfs, able to manage a stronghold of thousands while fending off goblins with one hand and designing intricate water-driven mechanisms with the other. You will, however, be expected to have a modicum of knowledge and skill regarding things like construction, industries, dwarf management, and fortress planning. If you don't think you can reliably manage a prebuilt fortress of 50 or 60 dwarfs during a goblin siege, skip the initial registration and get in at the bottom of the playlist. I'll give Ink-Eyes one more day to come up with this fabled "Perfect init file", and if he doesn't then we'll just rely on good old random chance to put together a good world for us. Half the fun of a succession game is getting fucked by random chance anyhow.
